Beyond the Stone Walls Advisory Collective (BSWAC) produces a podcast about criminal justice experiences. The episodes include contributions from people with lived experience of prison, as well as practitioners and researchers. Our aim is to build an empathetic understanding of people’s experiences within the justice system through personal stories coupled with industry experts’ research and data. We hope to promote change in the criminal justice sector through educating our audience, and encouraging critical thinking regarding the current systems and structures. We believe that by building understanding and compassion, we can break down the stigmatisation associated with incarceration.
In the spirit of reconciliation, BSWAC acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea, and community. We pay respects to their Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
We acknowledge the ongoing effects of colonisation across these lands and the overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Victorian prisons today.
