Art Workshops

"Art has the ability to heal and bring people together in so many different ways. Being a part of these workshops has shown that so clearly."
Emma
The BSWAC art program involves regular art classes run by artists and facilitators who generously volunteer their time. We learn various mediums including painting, photography, clay, song-writing, and mural painting.

The conversations we have in BSWAC are often challenging and emotional. We’re advocating for people’s rights in a complex system, which many people have experienced first-hand. The art program is a way for us to process emotions and explore aspects of our lives beyond the prison system.
Art has also become a tool for us to share the impactful discussion from our group with the wider community, as we work towards our annual art exhibition From Dark to Light Exhibition. The BSWAC art program is entirely run by volunteers and wouldn’t be possible without the invaluable support of the community. Special thanks in particular is extended to Nour, the owner of Unassigned Gallery. They have generously hosted our classes and exhibitions, donated art supplies, and offered unwavering support for all our endeavors. We are also so fortunate to have been able to connect with some wonderful artists, and thank the community for the donation of various art materials. This art program wouldn’t have been possible without all of us.
